"Never reveal yourself. It's the second rule of gods and monsters." She looked up at him. "Do you remember the first?"

"Pay attention."

"Yes! Very good."

"No," said Dax. "I mean: pay attention, I'm about to win the game."

Roa frowned.

"Want to know the third rule of gods and monsters? Just made it up.

Never underestimate a fool."

King of Scars

King of Scars King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

⭐4.5 stars⭐

Stop punishing yourself for being someone with a heart. You cannot protect yourself from suffering. To live is to grieve.

You are not protecting yourself by shutting yourself off from the world. You are limiting yourself.

Slayer

Slayer Slayer by Kiersten White
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

⭐2.5 stars⭐

A story. One where monsters were defeated and then the book ends.

But monsters never respected endings in real life. They just kept coming and coming and coming. They never stopped needing to be defeated.

"It is the strength of your heart that matters. No matter where you are, no matter how far, this will lead you home. It is the strength of this that matters.

You were born of two mighty bloodlines. That strength flows through you. Lives in you.

You do not yield."

Aelin slammed her hand into the lid.

To Catch A Rogue

To Catch A Rogue To Catch A Rogue by Bec McMaster
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"You should never reveal your hand, little bird. Only those with nothing to lose are safe in this world."

"Strange. I thought those with everything to lose were far more dangerous. A man with nothing to lose has nothing to fight for."

Yaaay a winner! I was a tiny bit disappointed by this spin off series. I liked the previous stories but they were all missing that little something that would make me love them.

BUT! I just knew Charlie will win me over!
My sugarplum was adorable and is to be protected at all costs!

The Darkest Star

The Darkest Star The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It still amazes me. The whole thing. Like how all the basic human rights can be stripped away, but because you have a bed, a room, and food on your plate, you don’t even realize you have no rights.

I'm a big JLA fan and I really liked the Lux series so I might be a bit biased when it comes to this but it felt so good being back in that world! We got even more things explained in this book and really liked that.
I was always a fan of Luc so of course I was excited to read his story and I'm happy to say I'm satisfied.
Well, for now. Can't wait to see what's coming next.

I'm not going to spoil anything, all I'm going to say is if you loved the Lux universe and wanted more of it then definitely give this story a chance

★Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book★

You Only Love Twice

You Only Love Twice You Only Love Twice by Bec McMaster

You cannot forget your pain without forgetting all the goodness that comes with it.
Pain is what makes the pleasures of life seem so vibrant.
If you didn't know pain or loss, then you would take for granted what had been gifted to you.

I never used to dream. Not when I was trapped in the cage, because if you dared to dream, then you would dare to hope.
And nothing hurts more than having that crushed and thrown in your face.

Of Silk and Steam Of Silk and Steam by Bec McMaster
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

She might have damned well been invisible, but she had learned.
Beauty could be a curse or it could be used, and she had learned to use it well over the years.

I loved this series and I loved Bec McMaster's writing! And the characters! Even when I had issues with them I never got to actually dislike them. That makes me happy. Feeling close to the characters is important to me folks.
I will definitely be reading more of her books.

The man with the biggest fists or the best skills in a knife fight isn't always the strongest or the bravest.

It's those who survive the worst life can throw at them and keep on fighting.

Garrett is a gosh darn dreamboat.

My Lady Quicksilver

I've seen revenge. So many times and in so many different ways. I've pulled the bodies out of the Thames and arrested hysterical wives or husbands.

Revenge is a cold, lonely place, and it consumes a person until there is nothing else left but bitterness and ashes.
And it always affects so many more than the people involved.

I knew I'd love Rosalind and Lynch! My favorite so far.

Wildcard

Wildcard Wildcard by Marie Lu
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

We fight for survival with everything we've got, as if the oxygen mask and the seat belt and avoidance of a square of chocolate cake might be the thing that saves us.

That's the difference between the real and the virtual. Reality is where you can lose the ones you love. Reality is the place where you can feel the cracks in your heart.

M: Okay, for my third wish I want you to grant me one thousand wishes.

G: Invalid request.

M: Seriously now?

I really enjoyed this!
A great collection of short stories, with Genie probably being my favorite of the six, and I really liked the interview/dialogue thing going on in most of them. The science parts were kinda tricky to follow at times but it didn't stop me from enjoying the book.

★Big thanks to Varun Sayal for a copy of his book.★

"I am tempted to incapacitate him with the hemlock and then castrate him."

Lena paled. "I don't think that would be very wise," she said. "And the only knife we own is what I use for the cooking. You're not using that."

"I was planning on using a spoon," Honoria replied.
